- The Western Fleet holds the Saudi navy's heavier surface combatants, its support vessels, its marines and its naval aviation, and it has been the focus of the service's re-equipment through the 2020s. Its sea is the one that makes Saudi Arabia different from every other Gulf producer: the East–West pipeline delivers crude to Yanbu on this coast, and when the strait closed in 2026 that outlet became the kingdom's escape route. The Houthi blockade of Saudi ports declared at Bab el-Mandeb in July 2026 then contested the outlet's outlet, cutting traffic through the strait by about a quarter and sending Asia-bound crude the long way through Suez. What the fleet did in response is not established in anything this module has read.
