Institutional emblem: European emblem — EUMA is a body of the European Union. The European emblem, drawn in IconSprite.astro from the European Commission's graphical specification of it (blue field; twelve upright five-pointed gold stars on a circle of radius one third of the height, at the twelve hour positions, each inscribed in a circle of one eighteenth of the height). No file is fetched and no mission logo is reproduced. The emblem identifies the institution this mission belongs to; it is not a mark issued to the mission and implies no endorsement of Vigil.

- The Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan, from a headquarters in Yerevan and forward operating bases in the border provinces. The mission operates on Armenian territory only, by mandate rather than by exclusion.

- The Council established EUMA in January 2023 after a short monitoring capacity had been deployed in the autumn of 2022 following the September fighting, and the mission began work on 20 February 2023. It is unarmed and civilian, observes and reports from the Armenian side of the border, and describes its own purposes as contributing to human security in conflict-affected areas and supporting confidence-building. Its mandate was extended in January 2025 for two years to 19 February 2027, with a budget of over 44 million euros for the period, and the mission fields about 165 international observers and analysts from 25 member states and Canada alongside Armenian staff. Azerbaijan has criticised the mission's presence and, unlike EUMM in Georgia, EUMA was never intended to operate on both sides of the line: its remit is Armenian territory by design. Since the ending of the Russian border-troop arrangement, it is the only international presence on the frontier it watches.
