- One of INDOPACOM's five service component commands. Its structural interest for this module is what the theatre's geometry has done to it: a small number of large airbases within range of a large missile inventory is the problem that produced agile combat employment — dispersing aircraft across many austere locations rather than concentrating them at few developed ones — and that concept is now the organising idea of US air posture in the western Pacific. It is the mirror image of the same problem Taiwan's own air force faces on a smaller island, and the two are solving it the same way.

- Dispersal trades concentration risk for sustainment complexity, and the sustainment side is the part that is hardest to demonstrate in exercises.
