The Army flag: a red field charged with a navy rectangle bearing the white sun of twelve rays, 2:3 — the National Revolutionary Army's flag, carried by the Army since. The design was verified independently of the file: the Armed Forces Flags Act and the vexillological record both give a red field with the blue-sky white-sun panel at the centre, which is what this file draws. - Istotna historia
- Kinmen is the oldest continuous confrontation line in this system: shelled through the 1958 crisis and then on an announced alternate-day schedule until 1979, garrisoned heavily through the Cold War, and progressively demilitarised and opened to cross-strait traffic from the 1990s. The defence command is the residue of that history and it now performs an unusual role. Since February 2024, when a fatal incident involving a Chinese speedboat preceded the start of regular China Coast Guard patrols in the surrounding waters, Kinmen has been where Taiwan most often has to decide what kind of instrument to answer with. In August 2026 Beijing announced twelve Kinmen–Xiamen integration measures, which is pressure of a different kind again — civil and economic rather than military — and no military command is the right answer to it.

The pressure Kinmen actually faces is largely non-military — coast guard presence, integration measures, economic linkage — and a defence command is structurally the wrong instrument for most of it. No strengths, dispositions, fortification detail or readiness are recorded.

Two separate chains of authority in the same waters: the defence command is military and under the Ministry of National Defense, the coast guard branch is civilian and under the Ocean Affairs Council. Which of them answers a given encounter is the whole substance of Taiwan's response to pressure around these islands, and the division is deliberate.
