Finland acceded in April 2023 and Sweden in March 2024, and with them the Baltic's shores became allied except at the Russian ends. The asset is access to the Baltic states: the sea routes across the Baltic, the air corridors above it, and the land corridor between Poland and Lithuania that this module maps as the Suwałki ground. Before 2023 two of the states bordering that sea were outside the Alliance, and allied movement across their territory, waters and airspace was a matter for national decision.
