Naval vessel · Conventional submarine with air-independent propulsion

Type 212CD submarine

The joint German–Norwegian submarine — twelve boats on order, the first due in 2029 — that the module's naval recapitalisation object uses to show how far the flank's undersea programmes run behind the posture built on top of them.

Type 212 Deutschland Type 212A in service from 2005; 212CD construction from September 2023, first delivery announced for 2029

Relevanz für Konflikte

Dies ist der einzige Eintrag des Katalogs zu diesem System. Es ist für das unten genannte Modul relevant; der Force Atlas jedes Moduls zeigt, wie es dort eingesetzt wird.

Betreiber

Germany and the eastern flank: Two boats contracted in 2021 under the joint programme with Norway and four more in December 2024, six in all, with deliveries announced for the early 2030s; the existing Type 212A fleet is the German Navy's current submarine force. Programme facts only. · Norway and the eastern flank: Four boats contracted in 2021 to replace the Ula class and two more contracted in Oslo on 30 January 2026, six in all, with the first delivery announced for 2029 and the remainder through the first half of the 2030s. Programme facts only.

Rolle auf dem Gefechtsfeld

Undersea surveillance and sea denial in the Baltic approaches, the Norwegian Sea and the High North: the quiet, long-endurance conventional boat that Germany and Norway chose to build together so that one design, one training pipeline and one maintenance arrangement serve both navies.

Stärken

Air-independent propulsion with a fuel-cell plant proven on the 212A, a low-signature hull designed for shallow northern waters, and a bilateral programme whose common design, joint training and shared logistics are the reason it exists; Canada's 2026 selection of the design extends the same arrangement.

Einschränkungen

The longest schedule in the module: contracted in 2021, first delivery in 2029, the last boats in the mid-2030s, with the Norwegian Ula class and the German 212A fleet carrying the task meanwhile. A single yard building for three navies is a capacity question the programme has yet to answer. No fleet status, basing or patrol information is recorded.

Visuelle Erkennung

A small, slender conventional submarine with a tall, narrow sail set forward and an X-form rudder at the stern; the 212CD is longer and broader than the 212A, with a more angular hull cross-section.

Dokumentierter Einsatz im Konflikt

NATO EASTERN FLANK. A programme record: the 2021 contracts, the German option exercised in December 2024, the Norwegian expansion of 30 January 2026, and the start of construction in September 2023 are the published milestones, from the two ministries and the yard. No boat has been delivered. Poland's separate submarine programme, awarded to Sweden's Saab in June 2026 according to the module's economy layer, is not this family and is not recorded here.
