- Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
- Mali's gendarmerie is the French-pattern military police that polices the countryside and the roads: brigades and posts in towns the army does not garrison, checkpoints on the corridors, and the escort of civilian movement. That makes it the state's most exposed institution. Its posts were among the first targets of the 2012 collapse and of the central Mali insurgency from 2015, and the JNIM fuel blockade of 2025–2026 was enforced against the roads the gendarmerie exists to secure. It is a defence-ministry force, alongside the army, air force and National Guard, and it is the gendarmerie rather than the army whose absence is felt first when a district passes out of routine administration.
