Zusammenfassung

The Russian presence in Niger is co-located with the AES joint command at Base 101 in Niamey, which places it at the institutional centre of the confederation's security architecture rather than at the centre of its fighting. Its one officially confirmed engagement was against the jihadist assault on Niamey airport in January 2026 — the only occasion on which Moscow has publicly stated that its forces fought alongside a Sahelian army, which makes it evidentially distinct from the Malian deployment's larger but less officially acknowledged combat record. The August 2026 mutiny at the same base added a second: Russia's ambassador said the base command had asked Africa Corps for help and that the mutineers were neutralised "particularly thanks to the intervention" of the force, and the chief of the general staff thanked it in person. The relationship is therefore the one in the region where Russian support has been shown, on Moscow's own account, to extend to an internal contest — at the force's own base and on request.
