يؤكد مجلس الأمن بالإجماع عدم جواز الاستيلاء على الأراضي بالحرب، ويدعو إلى انسحاب القوات المسلحة الإسرائيلية من أراضٍ احتُلت في النزاع الأخير، إلى جانب إنهاء جميع ادعاءات حالة الحرب واحترام حق كل دولة في العيش ضمن حدود آمنة ومعترف بها.
Resolution 242, reaffirmed by Resolution 338 after the 1973 war, is the reference text of the Egypt–Israel treaty, the Israel–Jordan treaty and the Oslo accords. Its English and French versions are read differently on how much territory withdrawal covers, and that ambiguity is part of the frame, not a footnote to it.
