- One of the three joint force commands under Allied Command Operations, seated in the Netherlands since the post-2002 consolidation. Since January 2025 it has led Baltic Sentry, with Allied Maritime Command working under its direction, and NATO's Military Committee stated in May 2026 that it is "the leading command for Eastern Sentry and Baltic Sentry". In February 2026 the North Atlantic Council agreed that Germany and Poland would share its command on a rotational basis, to be implemented with the scheduled rotation of personnel.

- An operational-level headquarters that exists permanently, with the staff and procedures already in place — and, since 2025, the one that leads the alliance's two named vigilance activities on this theatre's northern and eastern edges. Host ministries in the north-east describe their Force Integration Units and the Szczecin corps as answering to it, which makes it the joint-level node most of this module's northern structure points at.

Its mission page states what it does and names no geography, and nothing here infers one from maps, exercises or common description. Leading a vigilance activity is not command of the national ships and aircraft that take part in it, and the host ministries' statements about reporting lines are theirs, not NATO's.
