What this organisation is
SOCAR is the state's instrument in the export system that gives Azerbaijan its standing beyond the region. It holds shares in the Azeri–Chirag–Deepwater Gunashli and Shah Deniz production consortia and in the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline, which bp operates; it took over the technical operation of the South Caucasus Pipeline from bp under the pipeline owners' 2013 agreement, through SOCAR Midstream Operations; and it is the majority shareholder and operator of the Trans-Anatolian pipeline that carries Shah Deniz gas across Türkiye toward Europe. The module's logistics record describes the system the company sits in: a route built to avoid Russian and Iranian territory, interrupted once by the 2008 war in the transit state, and repriced politically after 2022 as European buyers sought non-Russian gas.
