- Israel answered the fall of Damascus with the largest strike campaign in its history against a neighbour's arsenal — over 350 strikes in days that destroyed most of Syria's strategic weapons, aircraft and air defences and the navy's remnants at Latakia — and with ground forces entering the buffer zone and positions beyond it. Since then its posture has had three strands: strikes on any visible rebuilding of Syrian military aviation, including the T4 and Palmyra bases Türkiye had surveyed in 2025 and Abu al-Duhur in August 2026; a security negotiation with Damascus opened in January 2026; and a declared protection interest in the Druze, invoked in the July 2025 strikes on Damascus during the Sweida violence and given a new dimension when Sweida's spiritual leader publicly relocated his community's horizon to Israel in August 2026. The Northern Command and its Golan division are the organisations that execute the posture on the ground.
