- Israel answered the fall of Damascus with the largest strike campaign in its history against a neighbour's arsenal — over 350 strikes in days that destroyed most of Syria's strategic weapons, aircraft and air defences and the navy's remnants at Latakia — and with ground forces entering the buffer zone and positions beyond it. Since then its posture has had three strands: strikes on any visible rebuilding of Syrian military aviation, including the T4 and Palmyra bases Türkiye had surveyed in 2025 and Abu al-Duhur in August 2026; a security negotiation with Damascus opened in January 2026; and a declared protection interest in the Druze, invoked in the July 2025 strikes on Damascus during the Sweida violence and given a new dimension when Sweida's spiritual leader publicly relocated his community's horizon to Israel in August 2026. The Northern Command and its Golan division are the organisations that execute the posture on the ground.

Israel invokes the protection of the Druze as a stated justification for its southern posture and has reportedly sought a corridor to Sweida in the security negotiation. Damascus rejects any external role and states that Sweida is an internal Syrian matter; Sweida's own factions are not united on the question and several have publicly refused external patronage. No command, supply or support relationship is established, and this module records the disagreement rather than resolving it.

في 23 فبراير 2025 دعا رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو إلى «نزع السلاح الكامل من جنوب سوريا، بما في ذلك محافظات القنيطرة ودرعا والسويداء»، وقال إن إسرائيل لن تسمح لقوات هيئة تحرير الشام أو الجيش السوري الجديد بدخول المنطقة الواقعة جنوب دمشق. وفي 25 فبراير ضربت طائرات إسرائيلية مواقع عسكرية في الجنوب — مقر وحدة عسكرية جنوب غرب دمشق ومواقع في محافظة درعا، بينها تل الحارة — وصفها الجيش الإسرائيلي بأنها مراكز قيادة ومواقع أسلحة. ورفض مؤتمر الحوار الوطني السوري، المنعقد في اليوم نفسه، التصريحات بوصفها استفزازية وأدان التوغل الإسرائيلي في الأراضي السورية.
