- Activated on 1 December 2015 as a Readiness Action Plan measure — the first standing NATO Force Structure headquarters in the south-east, four years before a corps existed above it. NATO's activation notice named Joint Force Command Naples as its operational-control authority and Romania as the framework nation with Romanians in the leadership posts. It led the second phase of NATO's Dacian Fall exercise in Romania and Bulgaria in late 2025, and the Chair of the Military Committee visited it in May 2026.
