- Finland, its territorial waters and airspace. The defence forces state five tasks — the military defence of Finland, participation in NATO’s collective defence, support to other authorities, territorial surveillance cooperation and international crisis management — and are subordinate to the Ministry of Defence in administrative terms, with the President as supreme commander.
- Istotna historia
- Finland deposited its instrument of accession on 4 April 2023 and became the alliance’s 31st member. The structural consequence was not a reorganisation of the defence forces, whose peacetime shape — Defence Command, Army, Navy, Air Force and a Logistics Command directly under the Commander — predates accession, but the arrival of a conscription-based mobilisation army inside a collective-defence perimeter: a Nordic land component command at Mikkeli and a multinational battlegroup in Lapland are the visible institutional results, both authored elsewhere in this module.
- Mocne strony
- Depth by design. The defence forces train roughly a contingent of conscripts every year into a reserve, and the Army describes its wartime troops in three categories — operational, regional and local — on its own site. What the alliance gained in 2023 was a state whose entire military system was already built around defending its own territory in the direction that matters most to this module.
- Ograniczenia
- The publication stops exactly where the mobilisation system begins. No reserve total, no wartime strength and no peacetime-to-wartime mapping appears on any page opened, and the defence forces’ English estate names formations only down to the Army’s brigade-level units and the Navy’s and Air Force’s named commands. Everything in this tree below the root is therefore the peacetime training organisation, which is a different thing from the force Finland would field.
