Podsumowanie

One of the twelve states that signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington on 4 April 1949, so its membership is not an accession but the treaty itself. Membership carries the mutual-defence commitment of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, under which an armed attack against one ally is treated as an attack against them all. Denmark controls the Baltic approaches and co-frames Multinational Division North. This record states the membership and its date; it says nothing about how much this state spends, what it contributes, or how reliable any party considers it — none of which membership establishes.

• That Denmark holds the Baltic approaches is geography; the passage regime through the straits rests on treaty and Danish law, not on membership, and this record does not conflate the two.
