Podsumowanie

One of the twelve states that signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington on 4 April 1949, so its membership is not an accession but the treaty itself. Membership carries the mutual-defence commitment of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, under which an armed attack against one ally is treated as an attack against them all. Belgium seats the alliance’s political headquarters in Brussels and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe at Mons. This record states the membership and its date; it says nothing about how much this state spends, what it contributes, or how reliable any party considers it — none of which membership establishes.
