Podsumowanie

Every westbound energy route out of the Caspian crosses Georgia. The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, opened in July 2006, was the first major export route from the former Soviet Caspian to bypass both Russia and Iran, and the parallel South Caucasus gas pipeline followed within a year; the Middle Corridor trade route runs the same way. The arrangement created the region's modern economic geometry — Azerbaijani revenue, Georgian transit income, Turkish leverage, Western stake and Armenian exclusion — and it is the one major regional relationship that no party has sought to reopen. Georgia's relations with Azerbaijan are correct and its transit role uncontested, through an EU accession crisis, a Karabakh war and a change in every other alignment around it.

Dlaczego to ważne

It is the structural reason Georgia matters to states with no view on its politics, and the reason Armenia's exclusion from the region's economic geometry has persisted for thirty years. It is also the counter-example to a reading of the Caucasus as uniformly contested: the region's most valuable physical asset sits on a relationship nobody disputes.
