- Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
- Established in 2013 under the General Staff as a command modelled, by its own founders' account, on Western joint special-operations commands — distinct from the GRU's spetsnaz brigades, which remained a reconnaissance-and-sabotage arm of the military districts. Its first public appearance was the Crimea operation of 2014, where the unmarked troops that seized the peninsula's key points were later acknowledged as its personnel; Syria from 2015 gave it a sustained combat role in target acquisition for the air campaign. In Ukraine its record is what Russian and Ukrainian reporting attribute to it — operations in the 2022 northern axis, Bakhmut, the Kursk incursion's counter — and the atlas records the outline without endorsing any of it.
