- Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
- Formed in January 2017 from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham — the renamed Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate until its 2016 break — and smaller factions, HTS consolidated control of Idlib by 2019, built a civil administration there under the Syrian Salvation Government, and spent five years distancing itself from its jihadist origins while remaining listed as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations, the United States and others. The offensive it led from 27 November 2024 took Aleppo in days, Hama and Homs within a fortnight, and Damascus on 8 December. Its leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, became the transitional president; on 29 January 2025 the movement and every other faction were declared dissolved into the new state, whose Ministry of Defence, General Security service and core army formations were built around HTS's cadres. The delistings and the sanctions relief of 2025–26 — the Caesar repeal, the rescission of the state-sponsor designation — are the international reckoning with that lineage, and the coastal killings of March 2025 are the transition's reckoning with what its forces did.

- A jihadist lineage the new state is still asked about, a cadre base that now runs a national army it has to widen beyond itself, and a record — Idlib's detentions, the coastal violence its successors were implicated in — that the transition carries. Eine Versammlung siegreicher Fraktionskommandeure ernennt Ahmed al-Scharaa zum Übergangspräsidenten, hebt die Verfassung von 2012 auf und verkündet die Auflösung von HTS, der bewaffneten Fraktionen sowie der Armee und der Partei des früheren Regimes in neue staatliche Institutionen — nachdem seit Dezember eine Übergangsregierung die Geschäfte geführt hatte.
