The 1980 facilities-access agreement gave United States forces the use of Omani airfields and ports on request, and has been renewed since; in March 2019 the two governments signed a framework agreement on the use of the ports at Duqm and Salalah, both on the Arabian Sea and both outside the strait. Oman has never hosted a permanent United States command on the Bahraini or Qatari model, and it pairs the arrangement with the region's most durable channel to Tehran. Both ports were struck in the first week of March 2026, and resolution 2817 names Oman among the states attacked. The record states the arrangement's existence, its published scope and its dates, and nothing about use, tempo or what is present.

Warum es wichtig ist

If the strait stays commercially shut, the outlets that matter are the ones outside it, and Oman's are the only Gulf Arab terminals in that position. The arrangement is the reason Duqm appears in both the Atlas's naval records and the module's logistics thinking, and it is the other half of Oman's position: engagement with Iran and access for the United States, held at once.
