Mali's special-forces battalion, created by decree on 16 May 2018 with its own commando-training centres and recruited across the services — the state's one special-operations formation, tasked on paper with special operations, counterterrorism, intelligence and the protection of state figures, and whose role in the 2020 and 2021 coups and the 2023–2026 campaigns is reported rather than documented.
