نشرت CNN تحقيقًا أفاد بأن نحو خمسة عشر مختصًا أوكرانيًا منتشرون في شمال مالي يعملون مع جبهة تحرير أزواد، ويقدّمون التدريب والدعم والمساعدة العملياتية بدلًا من المشاركة في القتال على خطوط الجبهة، ووصف أحد المشغّلين تنسيق رحلات المسيّرات المحلية عن بُعد — باستقبال بث الفيديو عبر الإنترنت وتوجيه الطائرة بالراديو. وتستند الرواية إلى مقابلات مع مشغّلَي مسيّرات أوكرانيين يُقال إنهما منتشران هناك، ومصدر في الاستخبارات الدفاعية الأوكرانية، ومتحدث مسمّى باسم الاستخبارات الدفاعية؛ ويُنقل عن المصدر وصفه كييف بأنها تحوّل خبرتها في المسيّرات إلى أداة للسياسة الخارجية. ويحمل التقرير نفسه ثلاثة ادعاءات أضعف، يستند كلٌّ منها إلى مصدر واحد مجهول: أن عددًا من المختصين الأوكرانيين موجودون أيضًا في السودان، وأن أفرادًا من تشاد والنيجر وبوركينا فاسو سافروا في وقت سابق إلى مالي لتلقي تدريب أوكراني على المسيّرات، وأن أوكرانيين ساعدوا الجبهة في السيطرة على كيدال. وقالت وزارة الدفاع الروسية من جهتها إن مدربين مرتزقة أوكرانيين وأوروبيين درّبوا الحركات قبل ذلك الهجوم. ولم تؤكد أي دولة أي عنصر من هذه الرواية.
This record exists because the allegation acquired a shape, not because it acquired confirmation, and the distinction is the whole of it. Ukrainian involvement in Mali has been alleged since 2024; what is new is a number, a named partner, a role that stops short of combat and a command relationship run from outside the theatre. If accurate, the interest of the arrangement is not its size — fifteen people decide nothing about who holds ground in the north — but the fact that a handful of instructors can impose cost on Russian personnel at a price Kyiv can pay indefinitely. Four things stay apart and none collapses into the others: verified presence, which does not exist; attributed reporting, which is what this is, and which is strong of its kind; inferred scope, which is where the Sudan, third-country and Kidal claims sit; and speculation, which would include any account of what Kyiv intends. The Kidal claim deserves particular care: it is asserted by a Ukrainian participant and by the Russian Defence Ministry, two parties opposed in everything else who each have a reason to want it believed, and agreement between interested parties is not corroboration.
