Air defence complicates and imposes cost; it does not confer immunity, and this module avoids framing it as a shield.

A battery is a set of distinct vehicles rather than a single object: a large trailer-mounted phased-array radar panel that sits at a steep angle, a boxy engagement control station, and launcher trailers carrying angled canisters — four large canisters for the older interceptor, sixteen smaller ones for the PAC-3. The canister count on the launcher is the quickest way to tell which interceptor a photograph shows.

In Taiwanese service since the 1990s and progressively upgraded to the PAC-3 configuration, with further interceptor purchases notified to the US Congress across the 2020s. Batteries appear in Taiwan's announced air-defence exercises and in Han Kuang. The system's global combat record is extensive and is not Taiwanese; it is the basis on which Taiwan's own capability is usually discussed, and the distinction between a system's record elsewhere and its performance here is one this module keeps. No interceptor inventories, battery locations or delivery status figures are published.
