Since the July 2025 violence, Druze-led armed factions and council structures have held most of Sweida province outside state authority, with the province's parliamentary seats vacant and no integration terms agreed. Israel has declared an interest in the Druze file and acted on it, including strikes on Damascus during the July 2025 crisis justified by border security and Druze protection. A protection relationship has been reported around the Israel–Syria security talks, including a claimed corridor demand. What the record does not establish is whether such a relationship exists, what it would consist of, or who on the Sweida side would be party to it: the factions are organised around local religious and military leaderships rather than a single command, and are divided over Damascus, over integration and over any external protection.
