Betreiber
Azerbaijan: Deliveries reported from 2023; the heavy drone that succeeds the TB2 in the Azerbaijani inventory. · Burkina Faso — Transitional Authorities: Deliveries reported in 2024; Burkina Faso's air force has reorganised around armed unmanned systems. · Malian Armed Forces (FAMa): At least two reported delivered December 2024.
Rolle auf dem Gefechtsfeld
Long-endurance strike and reconnaissance at ranges covering the whole national territory; the high end of the drone capability that substitutes for a conventional air force.
Typical employment
Armed reconnaissance and strike over a national area from a small number of bases — the capability that substitutes for a conventional air force Mali does not have. In practice it has been the state's answer to the problem the terrain creates: insurgent forces that can cross open ground almost at will can still be observed from above, and the drone converts observation into reach without the sustainment cost of ground columns. That is also its strategic limit. It can strike anywhere and hold nothing, which is the mirror image of the insurgency's own position.
How the system is commonly used, at the level of published analysis — never a procedure, a loadout or an engagement envelope.
Stärken
Endurance, satellite-linked reach and payload far beyond the TB2; operates above the effective ceiling of insurgent countermeasures.
Einschränkungen
Cannot distinguish combatants from civilians any better than its targeting process — strikes near Tinzaouatène have repeatedly been contested; vulnerable to state-grade air defence, as the March 2025 shoot-down on the Algerian border showed.
Typically used alongside
- Bayraktar TB2Konfidenz: hoch
The lower tier of the same Turkish drone capability, in service earlier and in greater numbers; the Akıncı adds payload and reach rather than replacing it.
- Cessna 208 Caravan (ISR)Konfidenz: mittel
Manned light ISR covering the surveillance role at lower cost and lower endurance.
Beobachtete Anpassungen
Drone capability became the centre of Malian offensive operations after the 2022 French withdrawal removed allied air support — a substitution documented in the 2023 Kidal recapture and the 2026 northern fighting.
Reported insurgent counter-drone activity from 2025, including commercial and FPV-style attacks on drone-control infrastructure — the capability being contested rather than merely evaded.
The March–April 2025 loss to Algerian air defence established that the capability is bounded by state-grade air defence at the border, and turned a military asset into a fifteen-month diplomatic rupture.

Visuelle Erkennung
Twin-turboprop with a broad high-aspect wing and distinctive curved winglets; much larger than the TB2.
Dokumentierter Einsatz im Konflikt
Delivery publicised December 2024; employed in northern strike operations. One shot down by Algerian air defence near Tinzaouatène on 31 March – 1 April 2025 — the incident behind the year-long diplomatic rupture.
