A historical and lineage category: after the 2022 annexations these structures were absorbed into regular Russian ones — the two corps reported re-formed as the 51st and 3rd Combined Arms Armies in 2024 — and are not shown here as if unchanged.

- The Donetsk and Luhansk oblast fronts of 2014–2022, historically; the successor structures fight on the same axes inside the regular Russian order of battle.

- The 1st Army Corps (Donetsk) and 2nd Army Corps (Luhansk) were built from 2014 around local separatist formations under de facto Russian direction, manned increasingly by forced local mobilisation in 2022. After the September 2022 annexations they were folded into the regular Russian military — first under the Southern Military District's 8th Guards Combined Arms Army — and in 2024 were reported re-formed as the 51st and 3rd Combined Arms Armies respectively. The grouping keeps the 2014–22 structures visible as history and lineage, because the successor armies inherited their manpower, positions and much of their reputation, and because a reader following an event from 2015 needs somewhere to land.

- As a lineage device it preserves what the reorganisation obscured: that a large share of the Russian force on the Donetsk axis descends from the proxy corps, with their eight years of positional familiarity and their chronic under-equipment relative to regular formations.

- It is history, not structure. Nothing here describes a current command, the successor armies are not yet records in this atlas, and the internal order of battle of the corps is documented unevenly and largely not authored.
