أعلن وزير الأمن Mahamadou Sana في 6 يناير 2026 أن السلطات أحبطت مؤامرة كان مخططًا لها في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع السابقة، قال إنها تضمنت اغتيالات موجهة لمسؤولين عسكريين ومدنيين من بينهم رئيس المرحلة الانتقالية، وتدمير قاعدة إطلاق المسيّرات في البلاد، وتمويلًا من ساحل العاج؛ وسُمّي الرئيس الانتقالي السابق بول هنري سانداوغو داميبا منظّمًا لها، ونُسب كشفها إلى مقطع فيديو مسرَّب للمتآمرين. وقال وزير الدفاع إن التحقيقات مستمرة وإن عدة اعتقالات نُفذت، دون ذكر أعداد. وهي المؤامرة الرابعة التي تعلنها السلطات منذ سبتمبر 2022 — بعد سبتمبر 2023 ويناير 2024 وأبريل 2025 — وكما في كل منها، لا توجد رواية مستقلة لما كان مخططًا له.
The Sahel's three transitions are military governments whose principal internal threat is their own armies, and each announced plot is evidence of two things at once: that the threat is real enough to act on, and that announcing it is itself an instrument of consolidation.
