Stärken

Low-observable design, long range and modern sensors, produced in numbers that have grown steadily. Its existence and production rate are the clearest single indicator of Chinese aerospace industrial capability.

Einschränkungen

Combat performance is entirely untested. Engine development has historically been the programme's constraint, and open-source assessments of its actual capability vary very widely — reflecting genuine uncertainty rather than analytical disagreement. Vigil publishes no inventory figures, basing or deployment information, and treats confident capability claims from any direction with caution.

Visuelle Erkennung

A large twin-engine fighter with canard foreplanes ahead of a delta wing and outward-canted fins — the canard-plus-delta combination is unique among low-observable aircraft and is the identification. Photographs of it near Taiwan are rare, which is itself worth noting.

Dokumentierter Einsatz im Konflikt

In PLA Air Force service since 2017 and displayed publicly at Chinese air shows. Appearances in Taiwan's published detection reporting are infrequent by comparison with the fourth-generation types that do the routine work, and claims about its presence in specific incidents are often contested. This record stays at partial for that reason: the aircraft is well documented and its role in the pressure system around Taiwan is not.
