The Philippines has been a United States treaty ally since 1951, and the relationship has deepened substantially since 2022 alongside growing trilateral coordination with Japan. Its relevance to this module is geographic: the Philippine archipelago frames the southern approaches to the Taiwan Strait, and Philippine territory is the closest treaty-allied ground to Taiwan's south. The obligation itself is between the United States and the Philippines and says nothing about Taiwan; Manila has made no commitment regarding a Taiwan contingency.
