Mobile long-range rocket and missile fires against fixed and maritime targets, fired from a launcher that can move immediately afterwards. In the Taiwanese case the capability is a denial one: it extends the range at which an approaching force can be engaged from the land, without requiring a ship or an aircraft to survive in order to do it.

نقاط القوة

Shoot-and-scoot mobility is what makes the system survivable against a much larger opposing missile and air force — the same property that made it effective elsewhere. It fires a family of munitions of very different ranges from one launcher, and it is road-mobile on an island with a dense road network, which suits the terrain better than most imported systems do.

Every constraint on this system for Taiwan is a supply constraint rather than a technical one. Launchers and munitions are foreign-made, so inventory expansion requires a US export decision and a place in a production queue that other customers are also in; deliveries have slipped and been accelerated repeatedly, and the delivery record — not the announcement record — is the thing worth watching. Rocket artillery also does nothing about the pressure that constitutes daily activity in this system, which is conducted by white hulls and civil measures.

A five-tonne wheeled truck chassis with an armoured cab and a single boxy launcher module carried behind it, elevating at the rear; the module holds one pod rather than the two of the tracked MLRS it derives from, which is the quickest way to tell the two apart in a photograph.

الاستخدام الموثّق في النزاعات

The first tranche of launchers and Army Tactical Missile System rounds was delivered in November 2024, with a further batch of missiles arriving in January 2025; Taiwan's military announced the formation of its first HIMARS unit in 2025, and the ministry confirmed a second tranche of launchers for 2026, brought forward from an earlier schedule. Taiwan has publicly test-fired the system domestically. Vigil records deliveries and announcements as reported and publishes nothing about where units are assigned, which public reporting does state.
