- One of INDOPACOM's three subordinate unified commands, alongside US Forces Korea and Special Operations Command Pacific. Its significance to this module changed in 2024–25. USFJ had historically been an administrative headquarters rather than an operational one; in July 2024 the United States announced it would be upgraded toward a joint force headquarters, and in March 2025 Japan established a Joint Operations Command to command its own forces as one. The two changes are explicitly paired in both governments' statements. That pairing is the most concrete alliance-structural development in the module's period, and it is about command arrangements — who talks to whom in a crisis — rather than about capability or commitment.
