Context, not targeting. A system record names published markers and published operators and states dependencies at the level a published institution does. It carries no facility-level capacity, vulnerability, protection or repair detail; the schema has no field for any of it.

ما هذه المنظومة

Russian forces are sustained by a rail-centred system in which ammunition, fuel and heavy equipment move by rail to railheads and by road only for the final leg. The dependence shapes how far from a line the force can operate and explains why Russian offensives stay close to rail.

Explains the shape of Russian operations better than any assessment of equipment or manpower — why offensives are conducted close to rail, why the southern land corridor was worth the war's largest offensive operation, and why Ukrainian deep strike concentrates on the classes of target it does.

المنظومة

نظرة عامة
The Russian military supply system is built around rail, a Soviet inheritance and a rational design for a continental army operating close to its own network. It is the single most explanatory fact about Russian operational reach: the further an advance moves from a functioning railhead the thinner its sustainment becomes, and the design does not scale to long road-borne supply lines — the 2022 advance on Kyiv exceeded that limit. Since 2022 the system has adapted: dispersal of storage after precision strikes on concentrated sites, reliance on the land corridor and the Kerch crossing to supply Crimea and the south, and the absorption of large volumes of imported ammunition into a domestic distribution network.
Current state · as of 2026-07
As the sustainment record last assessed it (July 2026): storage dispersed, the southern axis supplied through the land corridor and the Kerch crossing, and imported ammunition — principally from North Korea — a material input to fire rates rather than a marginal supplement. Russia's supply lines are shorter and domestic and are not subject to the political conditionality that governs Ukraine's.

العُقد

The published markers that carry this system value, by the module’s own priority. A note is the system record’s; a marker without one is a member by its own tag.

Named by the record through one of its routes, under another system tag:

Routes and operators

Supply systems running through it

Dependencies and constraints

Each marked documented (a published source states it) or assessed (Vigil infers it and says so). The two are never drawn the same way.

  • The record carries the system's shape and dependence; it publishes no storage site, convoy, schedule or capacity, by rule.
